Harlau – 1,5 km away from Polizu Manor
Hârlău city, Iaşi county is one of the oldest settlements of Moldova and has been documented in 1386 when royalties from the high court of Margareta Musat, the mother of ruler Petru I Musat, were here. The old princely courts now preserved medieval ruins and a number of remains well managed by the city’s History Museum.
Hârlău has a troubled history being destroyed many times over the centuries, by tartars, or Cossacks, Poland or other nations. Also, it was the center of peasant uprisings and movements, such as those of 1831, 1907.
The area is very important in terms of wine, vineyards of Cotnari hovering only a few kilometers away. In Harlau you can find a very interesting Wine and Vine Museum. The tradition and modernity coexist well in this quiet Moldovan town and this really shows in the city’s layout as very neat streets and each element is put in place.
Cucuteni Civilization – 16 km away from Polizu Manor
Cucuteni or Cucuteni-Tripoli one of the most ancient and mysterious civilizations in Europe, with a length greater than the Mesopotamian was named after the village of the same name near Iasi, where in 1884 were found the first remains.
Cucuteni preceded by several hundred years all settlements of Sumer and ancient Egypt. Cucuteni stretched over an area of 350,000 square kilometers, in present-day Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
It is one of the most spectacular civilizations with painted pottery of the prehistoric world, both because of artistic refinement of shapes and designs painted or incised on the dishes and anthropomorphic statuettes, processing technology of stone and metal (copper and gold), and because questions posed, many still unanswered.
Făgetul Secular Humosu (73,3 ha) – 20 km away from Polizu Manor
Humosu Forest Reserve with an area of 73.3 ha. is located in the northeast of the large forest Great Hill (Dealul Mare ) – Hârlău between Devil rivers on the south and on north Wide valley, tributaries of the basin Bahluiului, on Deleni commune area, is a protected natural area of national interest. The reserve is located in the hills of northern Moldavia, in the oak-wood floor and mixtures of these and beech at an altitude of 410-470 m., representing an interesting view is the secular forest of beech, installed on a brown soil – red forest. The beech tree layer is disposed on two floors: one with a longevity of approx. 160 years, the stems with a diameter of 60 cm. and another 60 years with thinner stalks about 25-30 cm. Isolated, we encounter hornbeam, ash and silver linden. Herbaceous layer is formed by pochivnic, corner, milkweed and so on.
Reservation: Forest Cotnari-Cătălina (7,6 ha) – 18 km from Polizu Manor
Located in the commune Cotnari on the national road DN Iasi – Hârlău reserve Catalina Hill is located near the Dacian Fortress, with an area of 7.6 ha. Composed primarily of secular Faget species of trees whose age is 150-200 years with copies of sylvatic Fagus, Quercus petraea and Fagus bull.
